About Reebonz
Reebonz is a luxury e-commerce start-up in Korea that offers services related to buying, renting, and selling luxury goods.
Seongsu, the neighbourhood surrounding Reebonz, is known for its diverse food scene. As a new member of the team, navigating these options was a challenge not only for me, but also for many of my colleagues. This highlighted the need for a shared platform to explore and review local eateries, fostering a more connected and informed workplace community.
Many of us experienced the frustration of relying on online reviews
While Seongsu offered a wealth of restaurants, finding a trustworthy recommendation was often a daunting task. Many of us experienced the frustration of relying on online reviews, only to discover that they were biased or paid-for promotions. This led to a growing need for a reliable source of dining information, based on real experiences rather than commercial endorsements.
1
Overwhelming Choices
The sheer number of restaurants in Seongsu made it difficult to identify and agree on where to eat.
2
Unreliable Reviews
Many online reviews were biased or paid for, leading to mistrust and frequent disappointment in the chosen restaurants.
Matzip Daedongyeojido focused on providing trustworthy, colleague-written reviews of local restaurants
This approach not only ensured reliability, but also convenience, making food selection a streamlined and enjoyable experience.
1
Proximity-based options
The directory primarily featured restaurants within walking distance of the office, making it convenient for team members to explore and enjoy meals together.
2
Authentic, Colleague-Sourced Reviews
By focusing on real reviews from colleagues, the platform provided reliable insight into local dining options.
Widely used by the majority of Reebonz employees
The 'Matzip Daedongyeojido' project was widely used for meal and café selections. Its integration into the company’s onboarding process further solidified its role as a key tool in enhancing the workplace experience.
Employee Dining Habits and Preferences
Observing my colleagues' behavior when planning lunch or cafe outings, I noticed that a significant amount of time, approximately 20 minutes, was spent just searching for a suitable café. This inefficiency in decision-making highlighted the need for a more streamlined approach to accommodate our diverse dining and coffee preferences.
Feedback on 'Matzip Daedongyeojido'
After quickly developing and launching this on Notion,
I introduced it to my colleagues. Despite its availability, the initial number of reviews submitted was low. Seeking to understand this reluctance, I gathered feedback from the team.
Enhancing User Retention and Engagement
Despite making 'Matzip Daedongyeojido' more user-friendly in response to feedback, I faced a challenge with low user retention.
To address this, I introduced a 'Review Contest.' This initiative aimed to make the review process more engaging and enjoyable, while also fostering a sense of community among the team. We motivated team members to contribute by offering rewards, resulting in a significant increase in both the quantity and quality of reviews. This greatly enhanced user engagement and the overall richness of the dining directory.
'Matzip Daedongyeojido' holds cultural significance.
The name was chosen to symbolise a journey of culinary exploration and discovery. The project did not aim to represent geographical locations, but rather the diverse range of dining options available to our team.
